The EU’s plastics regulation will take effect by June 2021. This means that single-use plastics such as styrofoam packaging and plastic straws must be removed from the supply chain. Yet the disposable straw has become indispensable in the catering industry. Restaurants, bars, cafes and ice cream parlors are therefore forced to look early for suitable alternatives that have all the functional characteristics of the current plastic straws. The problem here is that not all straw alternatives are suitable, especially in the catering sector.
Comparison of straw alternatives:
Glass straws are easy to clean, but not unbreakable and therefore not as durable
Paper or pasta straws are easy to dispose of, but neither tasteless nor reusable
Silicone straws are elegant and very similar in functionality to plastic straws, they can usually also contain harmful substances. In addition, they can be used for a maximum of 6 months and are not so easy to clean
Bamboo straws are made from renewable raw materials, but they have to be replaced regularly and are not tasteless

Because by using high-quality stainless steel in material quality DIN 1.4301, our drinking straw alternative is also extremely robust and stable and thus a longevity not to be found with many comparable straw alternatives. If it should ever break, it is very easy to recycle.
Quality and Safety
The Turtleneck Straw® is the safe and high-quality alternative to straws made of paper, pasta or glass. For the production of our reusable straws, we only use stainless steel in DIN 1.4301 material quality. Due to our almost 60 years of experience in processing stainless steel, it had proved to be an extremely robust and flexible material. Our reusable straw is therefore easy to bend and at the same time extremely robust, which is a prerequisite for the safe bending of our reusable straw. It is also food safe, hygienically harmless and easy to clean. This guarantees that our Turtleneck Straw®, despite its flexibility, is more robust and durable than many other straw alternatives and that both cool and hot liquids can be safely consumed.
When used, The Turtleneck Straw® also guarantees maximum safety and a great feeling on your lips.
This is created by the rounded edges of the end piece, which ensure a pleasant and safe feeling when drinking. The large diameter of the Turtleneck Straw® also guarantees a good flow of even thick beverages and also allows an optimal amount of drink to be consumed.
Thanks to its maximum security and feel, the Turtleneck Straw® is also ideal for children. Thanks to the use of high-quality and unbreakable stainless-steel, it is free from toxic chemicals, pollutants, petroleum and BPA and does not splinter if children should bite on the straw.

Cleaning
Even if a straw made of stainless steel or metal is often the better alternative to plastic straws than, for example, a straw made of glass, these reusable straws are often perceived as less hygienic. Because of the material of these drinking straws, dirt and stuck beverage residues are difficult to see and also require a lot of cleaning
The Turtleneck Straw® is also the hygienic alternative to other straw alternatives. Compared to conventional metal or stainless-steel straws, the Turtleneck Straw® is flexible and has a large opening so that the water can flow through even better when cleaning. This means that it cannot only be cleaned with the cleaning brush, but also in the dishwasher without leaving any residue. The material of our straw alternative also contributes to the fact that the Turtleneck Straw® can be cleaned at least as hygienically as, for example, a glass straw. Because our stainless steel is extremely robust and durable and heat-resistant up to a temperature of 80 degrees. Germs and bacteria are removed just as safely as beverage residues.

How to clean the Turtleneck Straw®:
Cleaning in the dishwasher:
- 1. Bend the Turtleneck Straw® straight for residue-free cleaning
- 2. Place them upright in the available wash basket or in our stainless-steel basket specially developed for the catering industry. For particularly "sticky" beverages, we recommend placing our stainless-steel straw in a water bath shortly before the cleaning. In this way, stubborn residues can be removed quickly and easily
- 3. Clean with the standard washing program
- 4. Let it dry briefly and reuse
Cleaning with the special cleaning brush for gastronomy:
For cleaning by hand, we have developed a special brush with a length of 360mm and a particularly stable and ergonomic handle for the catering industry. In a few minutes, many drinking straws can be cleaned just as hygienically as in the dishwasher.

The Turtleneck Straw® is not only an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic straws, it also helps to reduce operating costs in the long term. The lifespan of our straws is not only many months, but even years.
We achieve the bend by undulating the material. This deformation makes the straw even stronger at this point. Long-term tests have shown that the bend still works perfectly even after a year. So, after a short time our straws have already left the disposable straws behind economically.

There is also a certain loss. This decreases noticeably after the initial introductory phase. Here we also calculate conservatively and assume 50% replacement requirements / year due to loss. The cleaning costs are hardly measurable, because our straws are cleaned in the dishwasher together with other cutlery.
To reduce loss, we provide especially for the catering industry counter displays with sets of 4. You can offer your customers to take your straw home with them. This is way you benefit from an additional source of income!
